MEET NANCY FROM THE ARTISANAT COOPERATIVE

Nancy is a 31-year-old woman who has been working with Haiti Projects for eight years. Before joining our program, Nancy was pursuing her education when her mother suddenly passed away; around this same time, she found out she was pregnant. In a short period, Nancy needed to quickly shift her life from that of a student to a mom-to-be. Fortunately, she learned about Haiti Projects and began to work as a washer in the artisan cooperative.

“My son is now nine, and this program has been a great help to us. Because of it, I have been able to pay for his school, buy food, and save some money”, she mentioned. Additionally, the cooperative allowed her to meet new people and form lasting friendships. “I found a group of supportive women I could confide in and laugh with. A place where I can have fun and evade the daily stress of life as I’m working. I love what I do for a living, but mostly, I love the environment we created between us.”

As inflation continues to soar in Haiti, Nancy hopes that sales will increase, leading to more work for the women and increased earnings. She considers the program a blessing for the community of Fond des Blancs. She hopes it can expand so that even more women can benefit from it.
