Meet Claudette, Mother of Library Beneficiaries
My name is Claudette, and I am 37 years old. I am the mother of three children, two girls and a boy. Christinaïly is 11 years old and in 7th grade, Sayalah is 10 years old and in 6th grade, and Jean Roben is 6 years old and in 1st grade. Currently, I am working as a maid since I’m the only one taking care of the kids. Two of my children are in Haiti Projects Library Program.
I left Fond des Blancs when I got married, but I moved back here with my kids when I separated from the father. When I returned, I heard about Haiti Projects library activities for children. I was interested in sending them there and searched for more information, hoping these programs were free. Since then, I have also integrated library activities into their educational program. They have attended the library for seven months.
They started attending the weekly kids club, crochet class, and BrainPop class.
BrainPop really supports what they are learning at school. Since they started that class, I can tell there have been positive changes. Especially when they get home, how they talk to each other and summarize what they’ve learned. They ask each other questions and answer each other. It really improves their performance at school. They always get excellent grades.
There’s a big difference between my kids and others who don’t go to the library. They are very advanced and have questions that, even I as a parent, often can’t answer, especially since they’ve been going to the library programs.
A number of kids from my neighborhood participate in the programs. They participate every Saturday. They like to read and write, and they often do. When they come over, they always practice what they’ve learned in class, and I always encourage them to do so.
I’m really happy with all these programs. They have been very helpful to me and our community. Thank you!
